All these people say they hate/love the "core" genres, meaning Metalcore, Deathcore, etc. But I've always wondered, what about GRINDCORE? since they have the "core" suffix, should they be considered part of the "core" genre family? Why are there people that listen to Pig Destroyer and Napalm Death that claim they Despise "core" music when they're listening to stuff with "core" in the genre name??

Please post your questions/opinions/rants/etc.

ahh yes, one of the greatest mysteries in metal (for me anyway).

Well, from what I've heard, there is some forms of "core" influence that lurks throughout some Grindcore bands. I mean, there are definately some hints of Extreme Hardcore in the track Heartwork. Mainly in the guitars riffs and the musical structure.

Even is newer bands such as Disfiguring The Goddess, although they are considered "grindcore" (I've seen them classed as many things including; Deathcore, Brutal Deathcore and Brutal Death Metal). There is alot of Deathcore influence going on there, which is a Core genre.

Either way, if it were a Core genre, its definately the most respected out of all of them.

Heartwork was basically proto-Arch Enemy without the awesomeness of Johan Liiva's vocals. Not Grindcore at all.

Now, tell me, what is the difference between this

and this

If you can tell the difference, you'll realize why metalheads are able to like Grindcore even though it is a "-core" genre while hating all other "-core" genres.

Obviously I'm not like this, but you get the point.

hm.. i see now, basically, Grindcore is like... the Brutal Death Metal version of the -core genres. Let me explain. most Grindcore is VERY fast paced, and often lacks melodies & harmonization. where as Deathcore and Metalcore often make the harmonization more noticeable and prevalent in the music. making Deathcore and Metalcore the kinda melo-death versions of the -core genres.

makes sense to me lol.

well Deathcore is more of the Death Metal part of the -core genres. and Metalcore is more the melodeath/ thrashy feel. so like this

Grindcore = Brutal Death Metal
Deathcore = Slam/Death/tech death
Metalcore = Thrash/Melodeath/Hardcore

i usually don't like saying one genre is like another, but it's the only comparison i can think of...

Grindcore is just...Grindcore. the progenators of the genre had more of a Hardcore punk aesthetic to a sound similar to death metal. This was of course, a decade before the metal/death Core genres got started so I wouldn't put them in the same category. Plus, Grindcore rules. I've been on an Agoraphobic Nosebleed binge all day. Forgot how awesome this band is.

I don't understand how you got these "connections" between the genres. I mean, yeah sure, there is some overlap between Grindcore and Brutal death metal. But... there are many people wouldn't be able to differentiate some Deathcore with some Brutal death metal. Also, Deathcore has tonns of bands in the scene which are thrasy,melodic death and Hardcore and there are Metalcore bands who are just... Metalcore without bits of melodic death or Thrash Metal (ok, is a standard issue in Metalcore Hardcore but still).

but I agree with Demogorefest, Grindcore is just grindcore. Except unlike him, I've been on a Blood Duster high this week
